IRANIAN President Ebrahim Raisi backed the deadly attack by the Palestinian-based Hamas fighters toward Israel and described it as an act of self-defense.
Raisi also called on Muslim nations to support Palestine and warned that Israel must be held accountable for endangering the region.
His statement came amid allegations that Iran played an important role in making the deadly attack possible this past weekend.
On the morning of Saturday, October 7, Hamas fighters entered Israel’s land, air, and sea territories, with the group infiltrating the southern border and firing more than 5,000 rockets from the Gaza Strip.
A video of the militants using paragliders to enter Israeli territory went viral online.
Meanwhile, former U.S. intelligence and military officers claimed that the sophisticated tactics Hamas used to attack Israel indicate that Iran most likely played a significant role in the deadly assault.
According to them, the hostage-taking scenarios, fast boats, and swarming an opponent manifested an approach that Iran and its proxies often use against opponents with superior conventional forces.
However, a Hamas official denied Iran supported the operation that is currently making global headlines and dividing the world’s stance on the matter.
