Iran suspects sabotage after multiple gas pipeline explosions

A sabotage attack this was how Iran’s oil minister and local officials labeled the two huge explosions that rocked the country’s main gas transmission line in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Iranian Ministry of Petroleum said the attack was aimed at disrupting gas supply to major provinces by “destructive elements and enemy conspiracies.”

The blast affected homes, offices, and industries in some large provinces.

All compressed natural gas fuel stations across Iran have been closed for 24 hours as a safety precaution.

There were no casualties reported.

Meanwhile, repair work for the damaged gas pipeline has started.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Iran owns some of the largest proven reserves in the world and produces about one billion cubic meters of gas per day.

The incident happened a few days after Iran observed the 45th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution and in the wake of rising tensions with the West.
