PRIME Minister Fumio Kishida and Taiwanese Representative Morris Chang held a 30-minute meeting to discuss key issues surrounding the peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Morris Chang is the founder of the semiconductor giant, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). And is known to put Taiwan in the top ranks of high-tech manufacturing as well as electronic devices.
During the meeting, Kishida highlighted the significance of fostering peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait during his meeting with Chang, underlining the importance of people-to-people exchanges, particularly among the next generation.
Chang, in turn, expressed optimism about deepening Taiwan-Japan relations, reflecting on the shared values and economic ties between the two nations.
The Japanese Prime Minister conveyed his country’s eagerness to strengthen ties with Taiwan across various sectors, emphasizing economic and private-sector exchanges.
He also talked about a peaceful solution to the China-Taiwan issue.
Kishida’s meeting came following his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, wherein both leaders agreed to settle their country’s differences.
In the Kishida-Xi meeting, both leaders reiterated the importance of peace in the Taiwan Strait, emphasizing Japan’s consistent position as outlined in the Japan-China Joint Communique of 1972.
