Joint operation seizes P3.4-M worth of illegal drugs at Batangas Port

A joint operation between the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency-Batangas Provincial Office (PDEA-BPO) together with its Seaport Interdiction Unit (SIU) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) led to the successful confiscation of approximately 500 grams of suspected Methamphetamine Hydrochloride locally known as “SHABU” with estimated market value of P3.4-M.

The drug interdiction operation took place at Batangas Port on 10 April 2024.

The collaborative effort was led by the PDEA, Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Batangas, and Coast Guard K9 Field Operating Unit-Southern Tagalog (CG K9 FOU-STL).

The joint operation was prompted by a report from a PDEA agent, that a passenger of MV BB Coron is believed to be in possession of alleged illegal drugs. Said vessel is docked at Batangas Port bound for Abra de Ilog Port in Occidental Mindoro.

A meticulous investigation and K9 paneling involving narcotics detection dogs from the PCG and PDEA-Batangas was immediately conducted upon receipt of the report.

Both shows positive indication on the red paper bag where the alleged illegal drugs was placed and aided with the use of substance analyzer indicating methamphethamine controlled substance.

The suspect, a 36-year old female, and a resident of Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, was informed of her constitutional rights by the arresting PDEA Agent and subsequently taken into custody of PDEA-Batangas Provincial Office along with the recovered substance.

Legal proceedings will follow for the violation of specific provisions of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, extends commendation to the team for their exemplary success in the interdiction operation and for fostering seamless collaboration with relevant agencies.
