MATAPOS ang pagsasapribado sa operasyon ng Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), ay nilagdaan na rin ang privatization project sa Laguindingan International Airport sa Misamis Oriental.
“The PPP program is a cornerstone policy of the government as a strategy to accelerate the infrastructure or development of airports and other sectors,” pahayag ni Usec. Roberto Lim, DOTr.
Nilagdaan na ang kasunduan sa pagsasapribado sa operasyon ng Laguindingan International Airport sa Misamis Oriental.
Nitong Lunes, ginanap sa Malacañang ang signing ceremony ng Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project concession agreement kasama ang Department of Transportation (DOTr), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) at Aboitiz Infracapital.
“As you all aware, we are supposed to be regulators of the so many airports that we have in the country. And with the PPP, slowly operations of airports will be moved out of CAAP itself so that we can concentrate on our primary mission of regulation and safety. So private sector will develop this, it’s quicker,” wika ni Capt. Manuel Tamayo, Director General, CAAP.
Ang paglagda sa kasunduan, ay isang buwan matapos ibigay ng DOTr ang notice of award sa Aboitiz Infracapital para sa modernisasyon at rehabilitasyon ng Laguindingan International Airport.
Ayon kay Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, sa ilalim ng public-private partnership scheme, pangangasiwaan na ng Aboitiz Infracapital ang operasyon at pangangalaga ng nasabing paliparan sa loob ng 30 taon.
Ang pribadong sektor ang hahawak sa operation, upgrade, expansion, at maintenance ng paliparan.
Sa naturang proyekto, ani Bautista, inaasahang dadagsa ang mga oportunidad para sa pamumuhunan, kalakalan, at turismo sa Northern Mindanao at mga karatig na lungsod.
Kabilang sa mga responsibilidad ng Aboitiz Infracapital sa ilalim ng kasunduan ang pagbabago ng umiiral na terminal space upang mapabuti ang processing capacity nito.
Gayundin ang pagtatayo ng bagong Passenger Terminal Building (PTB), pati na rin ang pagmi-mentina at pag-aayos ng paliparan upang masolusyunan ang kakulangan sa airport capacity.
Kapag naisakatuparan ang upgrades na ito, inaasahang madadagdagan ang kapasidad ng paliparan hanggang sa 6.3 milyong pasahero bawat taon.
Ang pagpa-privatize ng Laguindingan Airport ay magbubukas din umano ng direktang mga flight mula sa iba pang Asian carriers patungong Mindanao at vice versa.
Nasa P12.75B ang tinatayang gastos sa nasabing proyekto.
“This PPP project came to fruition with the International Financial Corporation or IFC of the World Bank Group providing us advisory services on how best to privatize this airport,” saad ni Sec. Jaime Bautista, DOTr.
Ang Laguindingan International Airport, na matatagpuan sa pagitan ng mga lungsod ng Cagayan de Oro at Iligan, ay nagsisilbing access sa Northern Mindanao.
Ang privatization project ng Laguindingan Airport ay isinagawa makaraan ang pag-turnover ng Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) sa isang pribadong concessionaire noong nakaraang buwan.
Samantala, kasalukuyang tinatrabaho ng DOTr ang posibleng privatization ng pito hanggang labinlima pang paliparan sa bansa.
Kabilang dito ang Bohol-Panglao International Airport, Davao International Airport, Iloilo International Airport, at iba pa.
“We’re also working with the PPP Center for the Privatization and Operation, Maintenance and Operation of Kalibo International Airport.”
“So, we’re also working with ADB for privatization of possible seven to fifteen more airports in the country,” ani Bautista.
“The implementing agencies such as DOTr, in partnership with the PPP center and other relevant agencies, have been able to fast-track these projects that will bring connectivity, trade, commerce to our archipelagic nation.”
“So we expect to have more of this before the end of the year and additional projects for 2025,” dagdag ni Lim.
