RUSSIA’S Sergey Lavrov touched down Brasilia on Monday for a working visit as part of his Latin American tour.
Lavrov met with his counterpart, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, for talks, and during their meeting, Vieira reiterated Brazil’s call for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine.
Vieira also criticized the unilateral sanctions imposed against Russia, pointing out the negative impact on the global economy, particularly on developing countries that have yet to recover from the pandemic.
It can be noted that Brazil is among the nations that refrained from imposing sanctions on Russia since it launched its so-called military operation in February last year.
President Lula da Silva has also refused to provide weapons to Ukraine while proposing a group of nations, including Brazil and China, to be a mediator for peace between Moscow and Kyiv.
Meanwhile, after their meeting, Lavrov, in a press conference, told reporters that the West has engaged in what he calls as a rather tough struggle to maintain its dominance in world affairs, including geopolitics and economics.
