Lula to visit several African countries starting August

BRAZILIAN President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is planning to make two visits to Africa starting in August onwards.

Lula is due to visit no fewer than eight African countries, and among them are Angola, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, and Sao Tome & Principe.

The Brazilian president’s first tour is expected to coincide with the BRICS Summit scheduled in South Africa in August, while the second tour could happen on the sidelines of the African Union Summit in 2024.

Lula’s scheduled visits are part of strengthening ties with Africa after the trade between the two parties plunged following the political and economic crisis that happened in Brazil from 2014 onwards.

Brazil is also planning to reopen its embassy in Sierra Leone as well as set up a diplomating representation in Rwanda.
