Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in a Twitter post, said that he had a telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that he turned down an invitation to travel to St. Petersburg.
Lula said, and quote,
“I just spoke by phone with the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin. I thanked him for an invitation to attend the international economic forum in Saint Petersburg, and replied that I could not go to Russia at the moment, but reiterated Brazil’s willingness, along with India, Indonesia and China, to talk to both sides of the conflict in pursuit of peace.”
On the other hand, Lula reiterated Brazil’s willingness, together with India, Indonesia, and China, to talk to both Russia and Ukraine in pursuit of peace.
It can be noted that earlier this week, Lula also discussed the matter with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Since the conflict began, Lula has sought to broker peace by calling on a group of non-combatant states to hold discussions with the warring sides.
