PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., emphasized the importance of separating politics and economy to continue the stability and development of the country.
President Marcos said this in his fireside interview at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Malacañang Palace, regarding the challenges facing the Philippines, especially in its relations with other countries.
Like the previous administration, Marcos reiterated that the only way to promote the country’s foreign policy, “a friend to all, an enemy to none,” is by separating politics and economy.
“So, it is not that simple, but we have to make that delineation and hopefully, we make the right choices so that our political stability, our political sovereignty, and sovereign rights are defended, robustly,” according to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
The president further stated that this is what needs to be done to grow the economy while maintaining political stability in the Philippines.
“As long as we have a guiding principle, and that is to separate the two things as much as possible, it’s not necessarily, it’s not a binary solution, but it is something that we need to do if we are going to continue to grow the economy and yet maintain our political stability in the Philippines,” President Marcos Jr., said.
Discussions at the WEF centered on the country’s potential as the strongest-performing Southeast Asian economy in 2024.
