Mayor Baste Duterte challenges Speaker Romualdez to remove his name from aid distribution

Mayor Baste Duterte challenges Speaker Romualdez to remove his name from aid distribution

DAVAO City Mayor Sebastian ‘Baste’ Duterte was in Cebu over the weekend for the Maisug Prayer Rally wherein he challenged the current leadership of the House of Representatives.

“Go ahead, deceive us. Deceive us! Oh, you’re so funny,” according to Mayor Sebastian ‘Baste’ Duterte Davao City.

Mayor Baste showed no restraint at the Maisug Prayer Rally in Cebu City last Sunday, February 25.

This came after the controversial issue of the People’s Initiative (PI) to amend the 1987 Constitution, which allegedly angered his fellow Dabawenyos.

This isn’t the first time the Davao City Mayor has been angered by the PI issue.

For the young Duterte, the PI aims to extend the term of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. through Charter Change (Cha-Cha).

So, to convey his objection to his constituents, Mayor Baste criticized Speaker Romualdez, whom he sees as the instigator of the PI.

“You’re only brave because you’re the Speaker now. You’re only the Speaker because your relative is the President, that’s all!” added Mayor Baste.

Romualdez had previously called on the Dutertes to stop criticizing President Marcos Jr., and urged for respect for the current executive leader after Mayor Baste called for the President’s resignation.

“Stop your deceits, right? We should be serious now and just respect our hardworking President. He’s diligent and truly works for the betterment of Filipinos,” House Speaker Martin Romualdez [January 29, 2024] stated.

But for Mayor Baste, it should be the President speaking and not the Speaker.

“I don’t even know you! Let your cousin answer what needs to be answered, not you!” said Mayor Baste.

“You ask for respect, make sure you deserve it first. Don’t cry there because you weren’t respected!” he stated.

The local chief executive also issued a challenge to Romualdez regarding the distribution of aid.

Especially after it reached the young Duterte that the aid given to recent flood victims in the Davao Region was littered with the name of the House leader.

“They say, show me you can give aid without your name? Alright then! I challenge you in the next flood…” Mayor Baste said.

“In the next fire, I challenge you again! Give aid without your name, without your face. Hmm, alright!”

“You think this is just your playground because you have power now? Remember, there will be consequences!” he stressed.
