HINIKAYAT ngayon ng Philippine Army ang mga residente sa Batanes na maging reservists.
Sa isang pulong balitaan, sinabi ni LtGen. Roy Galido ang commanding general ng Philippine Army na ito ay kasunod ng utos ni Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. na palakasin ang militar sa mga island provinces.
“The instruction of the DND to be able to deploy forces is part of the strategic archipelagic defense posture natin the defense of the country will not only involve the regular troops but also our reservists” pahayag ni LtGen. Roy Galido, Commanding Gen., PA.
Dagdag pa ni LtGen. Galido, kung sakali ay malaking tulong ito sa militar.
“Our country is may kanya-kanya tayong sektor ng ano eh ng major services specially doon sa areas that are inter-island movements we use forces na may merong island capabilities just like the marine kaya nakita sa Mavulis they are marine contingent there because they have the platform to go to islands but more importantly we have army reservists in that area contributing to the defense,” dagdag ni Galido.
Hindi pa masabi kung ilan ang mabubuong reservists pero nasa higit 18,000 lang ang populasyon ng Batanes ayon sa tala ng PSA noong 2020.
Nilinaw naman ni Galido na wala silang planong magdagdag ng tropa sa Batanes.
“Were not planning to deploy, were encouraging our fellow Filipinos to volunteer and to be reservists kasi we will not deploy them kasi they are already the resident in the area so the more we get reservists, the better for our country,” ani Galido.
Matatandaan nito lang kamakailan, binisita ni Teodoro ang naval facility sa mga bayan ng Basco, Mavulis, at Mahatao.
Ang mga nabanggit na isla ay malapit lang sa timog na bahagi ng Taiwan.

Samantala, sa susunod na buwan na inaasahang magsisimula ang pagsasanay ng Philippine Army na nakatutok sa kung papaano makakatagal ang tropa ng militar na mapanatili ang puwersa nito.
Ayon kay LtGen. Galido, na kabilang sa pagsasanay ay kung papaano nila mapapakain o mabibigyan ng supply ang malaking bilang ng mga sundalo na nasa conflict area.
“How do we feed the 4,000 people, how do we supply them, how do we sustain them this exercise or this undertaking has never been experienced by the Philippine Army because we got used to dealing internal threats that they can easily sustain small units” ayon pa kay Galido.
Inihalimbawa pa ni Galido ang Marawi Siege at sinabi na kung hindi naging maayos at hindi nila napanatili ang pagbibigay ng supply sa mga sundalo ay malamang tumagal pa ang giyera sa Marawi.
“This will test our capability to sustain the forces specially in conflict, I will give you a scenario the Marawi is a conflict that we were able to mobilize forces immediately but the more challenging thing there is that sustainment aspect of it, if we were not able to sustain the army then that conflict could have drawn longer,” ani Galido.
Aabot naman sa 4,000 hanggang 5,000 sundalo ang inaasahang sasali sa pagsasanay.
Nilinaw naman ni LtGen. Galido na ang naturang training ay bilang paghahanda para depensahan ang mga teritoryo ng bansang Pilipinas.
