THE three mini refineries making up Mega Al-Zour make it the second-largest refinery in the Middle East.
It is also the largest environmentally friendly oil refinery in Kuwait.
The state-owned Kuwait integrated petroleum industries company operates the facility.
The company’s CEO described the Al-Zour refinery as ‘one of the world’s biggest projects’.
The successful operation of the third and final unit of the Al-Zour refinery has increased the facility’s maximum refining capacity to 615,000 barrels per day and will boost the nation’s refining capacity to about 1.5 million barrels a day.
