ISINUSULONG ngayon ni Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez ang pagbuo ng hiwalay na government entity na tutuon sa development ng renewable energy.
Sakop ng kanyang House Bill 4205 ang paglikha ng Philippine Renewable Energy Corp. (PREC) para pag-aralan ang lahat ng posibleng source ng green energy.
Layon din ng panukala na mahinto o mapababa ang epekto ng imported fossil fuels sa climate change lalo na’t karamihan sa energy plants ng bansa ay coal powered.
Tinukoy naman sa proposal ang renewable energy sources gaya ng biomass, solar, wind, geothermal, ocean energy at hydropower.
Pina-aabolish naman nito ang Philippine National Oil Corp.-Renewables Corp. (PNOC-RC) at ilipat ang kapangyarihan nito sa proposed PREC.
Nasa P7-B naman na pondo ang kailangan para sa proposed PREC na pamamahalaan ng board of directors na appointed ng Presidente ng Pilipinas.
“It is imperative for the government to take a more active role in assuring adequate supply of electricity with the use of renewable energy sources, thereby reducing the country’s dependence on imported fossil fuels and mitigate the impact of climate change,” saad ng kongresista.
