THE Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Bacolod, in coordination with the Philippine National Police– Maritime Group (PNP-MARIG), successfully intercepted a suspected wildlife transport operation at Bredco Port, Bacolod City, on 16 January 2025.
Acting on information relayed by a concerned citizen at around 11:15 PM, authorities apprehended a white Nissan van (plate number NEA 5086) allegedly transporting wildlife species from Mabinay, Negros Oriental enroute to Manila.
The operation resulted in the arrest of the suspect for violating Republic Act 9147, also known as the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.
Confiscated items included five Visayan leopards (two adult males, one adult female, and two young males) and the involved vehicle.
Following the investigation, the confiscated wildlife was turned over at around 3:00PM to City Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) personnel for proper care and handling.
Meanwhile, the arrested suspect was turned over to the PNP Maritime Bacolod City and transferred to the Maritime Police Station for documentation and legal proceedings.
The Coast Guard Southern Visayas (CGDSV) urges the public to report any illegal wildlife activities to local authorities to help safeguard the country’s natural heritage.
