Putin’s victory in Ukraine a ‘tragedy’ for Ukrainians, NATO—Stoltenberg

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed grave concerns about what could happen if Russia wins in the Ukraine conflict, stating it would be a tragedy for Ukrainians and pose a security risk to their military bloc.

Stoltenberg made the remarks on Friday, at a joint press conference with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in Berlin.

Stoltenberg also said that Russia’s victory would encourage authoritarian leaders to use force and violate international law to get what they want.

The NATO chief reiterated the bloc’s commitment to supporting Ukraine with weapons and ammunition

The remarks come amid warnings from the Pentagon about impending military aid shortages for Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy ruled out talks with Moscow by signing an October 2022 decree banning Ukraine from holding any talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin,

Zelenskyy is also demanding the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from disputed territories, and reiterated these demands in a Reuters interview held last week, and said that Ukraine would continue fighting even without the aid of the U.S., if need be.

He also denied reports that Kyiv’s Western supporters are allegedly encouraging him to engage in peace negotiations with Russia.
