MANY parts of Asia have been affected by a prolonged heat wave that battered the region this month.
Bangladesh, China, India, Myanmar, and Pakistan were all hit by crippling heat as temperatures hit record-high in April.
Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and the Philippines also recorded temperatures as high as 43°C.
Weeks of endless heat resulted in school closures and contributed to record electricity consumption in several parts of Asia.
In Thailand, authorities advised residents in Bangkok and other areas to stay at home to avoid becoming ill.
Scientific experts warned the “monster” Asian heat wave that shattered temperature records in more than a dozen countries is an early warning sign of catastrophic consequences if action is not taken.
Even Europeans were not exempted from the record-breaking heat wave, with a United Nations agency reporting nearly 16,000 deaths in the continent over the last few years due to global warming.
