PRESIDENT Xi Jinping still in Russia for his 3-day state visit wherein he first talked with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin followed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mushustin.
A meeting between the two superpowers has been taking place in Russia since Monday, when Chinese President Xi Jinping touched down in Moscow and talked with his counterpart, Vladimir Putin, over various issues, particularly in the conflict in Ukraine.
On Tuesday, the Chinese President met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Moscow in the House of Government.
Xi vowed to open a new chapter in China-Russia relations together with Putin.
Over the past decade, Xi said China and Russia have come a long way in their wide-ranging cooperation and made significant strides into the New Era.
The meeting came after Xi’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday upon his arrival.
Xi underscored that over the past decade, he and Putin have stayed in close touch and expressed his appreciation to Putin for immediately sending him congratulatory messages on his re-election as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China by the 20th CPC National Congress and on his re-election as the President of the country.
Xi invites Putin to visit China
The Chinese President said he had extended his invitation to Putin, and that Putin could come at his convenience.
Xi also expects Putin to be in China later in this year for the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
The Belt and Road is a multi-billion dollar initiative created by China for investment in the infrastructure of other countries.
This is China’s flagship, and the country hopes that this initiative will boost international trade.
Putin was present in the first two forums in 2017 and 2019.
Russia views Xi and his Chinese delegation’s visit as a major political event, both countries described their relations as a strategic partnership that has brought the two of them to their best level of cooperation, as the two also share a commitment to building a multipolar world.
