THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) together with the Local Government of Corcuera, Romblon, officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the Corcuera Port Development Project, 11 June 2024.
Transportation Undersecretary for Maritime Elmer Francisco Sarmiento said the development of the port will not only provide comfort and safety to the passengers but will also efficiently help in exporting goods, products, and animals like cattles and sheep from Corcuera.
“Itong pagbibigay natin ng pondo to develop ports, rehabilitate or construction of new ones, will help a lot specially in the isolated and remote islands, to connect them and build their island economies,” Usec. Sarmiento said.
Corcuera, Romblon Mayor Elmer Fruelda expressed his gratitude to the DOTr for the benefits and relief it will bring to our kababayans and nearby provinces.
“Ang impact nito ay napakalaki dahil mapapabilis ang phasing ng development at ‘yung hirap na nararanasan ng aking mga kababayan kapag nalilipat kami ng lugar dahil sa hirap ng pagdaong, pero dahil mayroon ng repair ang aming port ay magiging madali na lang,” Mayor Fruelda said.
