Senate concurrence still needed if Philippines rejoins ICC –ex-chief pres’l legal counsel

FORMER Presidential Legal Counsel, Atty. Salvador Panelo, refuted the statement of former Senator Franklin Drilon, asserting that the Philippines’ return to the International Criminal Court still requires Senate concurrence.

According to Drilon, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. holds the authority to decide as the Chief Foreign Policy Maker of the country.

The former presidential legal counsel reiterated his concerns about surrendering the country’s sovereignty if foreign entities were allowed to investigate the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.

It can be noted that Aside from the House of Representatives, a resolution has also been filed in the Senate, urging the government to cooperate with the ICC for an investigation into the anti-drug campaign in the country.
