South Korea plans to hold trilateral summit with Japan, China

SOUTH Korean officials want to revive a trilateral summit with Chinese and Japanese officials after it was temporarily put on hold due to the global pandemic.

If negotiations succeed, the summit could take place in May.

The talks will likely focus on economic cooperation and regional issues, according to diplomatic sources.

The office of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has been involved in discussions to make the three-way summit a reality.

The summit could likely take place more than a month after a bilateral meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and U.S. President Joe Biden in Washington scheduled on April 10.

The Foreign Ministry in Seoul said it would release a date for the event once negotiations turn out to be successful.
