South Korea, Saudi Arabia sign Defense Cooperation Agreement

SOUTH Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik visited Riyadh on February 4 for the World Defense Show as part of his week-long trip to the Middle East.

During this visit, the two countries formalized their commitment to enhancing their defense cooperation.

As part of the agreement, South Korea and Saudi Arabia will establish a joint committee to form a working group that will focus on weapons systems research and development.

The aim of this agreement is also to boost arms and weapon sales for South Korea, according to Seoul’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration.

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry reports a continuous growth in their arms exports to the Middle East from 2013 to 2022.

The signed agreement signals a commitment to closer defense collaboration between the two countries that are fostering mutual interests in weapons systems research and development.
