South Korean president provides help for typhoon Khanun victims

SOUTH Korea’s president ordered his government to provide swift and sufficient aid to people hit by typhoon Khanun.

In a written briefing Lee Do-Woon said that President Yoon instructed Interior Minister Lee Sang Min after receiving information about the damage.

President Yoon ordered his administration to provide swift and sufficient support to people who suffered from the onslaught as well to ensure thorough support for the victims of typhoon Khanun.

The typhoon destroyed facilities and caused floods, landslides, closure of schools, and disruption of transportation.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Yoon credited the preparations done by the government, saying that through early preparations such as the evacuation of 15,000 people and closing of around 2400 underground roads and facilities brought the casualties down to a minimum.

The South Korean president also gave appreciation to the efforts of everyone involved in the evacuation, giving credit to the interior ministry, the police, firefighters, and local government workers as well to the local residents actively cooperating.

According to the weather agency, typhoon Khanun made its landfall in the South Korea‘s Southeastern Coast Thursday morning and creeped up slowly north for 16 hours, it then dissipated after reaching the vicinity on North Korea’s capital Pyongyang.
