Syria, Türkiye condemn US official’s unannounced visit to Syria

ON the 4th of March, United States’ top military officer, US Army General Mark Milley, made an unannounced visit to Northeast Syria.

According to the US, the said visit was to review a nearly 8-year-old US mission to an area controlled by the US-allied Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

On the other hand, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported an official from Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Syria strongly condemns the illegal visit of the American chairman of the chiefs of staff to an illegal American military base in northeast Syria,” Syrian foreign ministry official’s statement as quoted by SANA.

“A flagrant violation of the sovereignty and integrity,” the Syrian foreign ministry added.

“The US administration to immediately cease its systematic and continued violation of international law and support for separatist armed groups,” the Syrian foreign ministry said.

Meanwhile, Turkiye has summoned US Ambassador Jeff Flake demanding an explanation over Milley’s March 4 visit to regions occupied by the YPG, PKK terror groups.

To note, the YPG is the Syrian affiliate of the PKK, a designated terror organization in the US and Turkiye.

It can be remembered that in March 2021, former head of the criminal law division at the pentagon and former Virginia Senator Richard Black alleged during a conference that the United States drew up plans to destabilize and overthrow Syria long before any demonstrations had ever occurred in Syria.
