THAILAND’s decision to waive visa requirements for Chinese tourists starting in September 2023 finally paid off after the East Asian country agreed to permanently waive off the travel requirements in each of their countries in the next two months.
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin shared the good news on Tuesday, the 2nd of January.
He hailed the measure as a sign of an upgrade of ties between the two countries.
The permanent visa-free travel scheme between Thailand and China will take effect on March 1, 2024.
To recall, Thailand waived the tourist visa requirement for Chinese tourists on September 25, 2023, with the privilege set to end on February 29, 2024.
More than 22,000 Chinese tourists entered the Southeast Asian nation in the first two days of the visa-free travel scheme.
The Chinese were the second largest group of foreigners to visit Thailand in 2023 after the Malaysians.
