Thailand welcomes US Navy visitors

THE visiting US Navy in Thailand said it is prepared to go anywhere in the “free and open Indo-Pacific.”

The US Navy‘s Nimitz Carrier Strike Group is visiting Thailand as part of its 11-month patrol mission in the US 7th Fleet area that started in November last year.

The group participated in joint drills with Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines. The visit aims to bolster the security ties of both nations.

The USS Nimitz is named the world’s oldest U.S. aircraft carrier in service and has the highest total of arrested landings recorded at 350,000.

It is the second-largest aircraft carrier in the world, stretching 1,092 feet long, 252 feet wide, and 244 feet high, making it as tall as a 23-storey building.

The US warship operates using two nuclear reactors and is one of the two most powerful aircraft carrier classes in the world after France.

The carrier strike group will stay at the Laem Chabang Port until Saturday.
