Thailand receives new military vessel from China

THAILAND welcomed the arrival of HTMS Chang, a landing platform dock built by China, and traveled to the country through the Taiwan Strait.

The vessel left the shipyard facility in Shanghai on April 18 and arrived at its homeport in Chonburi province, Southern Thailand on April 25.

A handover ceremony was launched a day before the warfare ship sailed from China to Thailand.

HTMS Chang is generally designed to transport troops into a war zone by sea.

The ship can accommodate 800 troops, has space for 60 armored fighting vehicles, and can carry four air-cushioned landing craft to launch amphibious assaults.

Construction of the ship cost the government of Thailand 6.1 billion baht and will be commissioned at Royal Thai Fleet in Chonburi province.

Although Thailand is a US ally, its military also operates several types of Chinese-made platforms, including tanks, frigates, and offshore patrol vessels.
