THE UAE donated millions more of funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency or UNRWA dedicated to the Palestinians in Gaza.
The Gulf nation provided $5 million in additional funding despite the recent controversy that plagued the UN agency.
It can be remembered that some of the agency’s employees were removed from their posts over their alleged participation in the surprise attack launched by Hamas on October 7.
Intelligence sources from Israel’s military and the General Security Service said there was strong proof of their involvement during the deadly attack.
The accusations caused several European countries including the United States and Australia to stop sending funds to the agency.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres immediately appealed to countries who suspended funding to resume handing out their donations amid the ongoing crisis in the besieged enclave.
Besides the $5 million aid, the UAE previously pledged $20 million in urgent funding at the height of the conflict in Gaza.
The UAE also delivered more than 15,000 tonnes of aid to the Palestinian people since the war broke out.
