AMID the ongoing conflict in Sudan as well as evacuation efforts from various countries, UN secretary-general deputy spokesman Farhan Haq announced during a press briefing that the United Nations will be allocating $3 million of emergency response funds to urgently respond to the arrival of Sudanese and others in Chad.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization reports that more than 60% of health facilities are closed in Khartoum and only 16% are operating as normal.
According to Mr. Farhannhaq, the treatment of nearly 50,000 acutely malnourished children has been disrupted, and according to UNICEF, at least 9 children have reportedly been killed and more than 50 injured during fighting that erupted on the 15th of April.
