VP Duterte meets with Singapore Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan

WEDNESDAY, April 16, 2024, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) welcomed His Excellency Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore, in Mandaluyong City, marking a significant moment in bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister Balakrishnan, known for his compassionate assistance during the COVID-19 quarantine in Singapore, was warmly received by Vice President Duterte. Their encounter underscores the enduring friendship between the two nations, with gratitude extended towards the Singaporean government’s kindness.

Reflecting on past collaborations, Vice President Duterte highlighted Singapore’s pivotal role during her presidency in the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Council. The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education played crucial roles in supporting the Philippine delegation during an Official Visit to Singapore last year.

As the Philippines and Singapore commemorate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations, both countries express eagerness to deepen ties, particularly in education. Singapore remains a key partner for the Philippines across various sectors, including trade, tourism, and investments.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Balakrishnan expressed appreciation for the contributions of Filipinos to Singapore’s society, recognizing their dedication in various fields, from industry to healthcare.

Both parties look forward to further collaboration and partnership, emphasizing the importance of education in strengthening bilateral relations.
