Zelenskyy wants Putin to face international war crimes court

UKRAINIAN President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin would face an international war crimes court when Ukraine wins the war.

The Ukrainian leader delivered a speech titled “No peace without justice for Ukraine” during his trip to The Hague, the city that hosts the International Criminal Court (ICC) during a surprise visit to the Netherlands.

In his address, Zelenskyy told the global audience that he wanted to see a different Vladimir here in The Hague, the one who deserves to be sentenced for criminal actions right in the capital of international law which he said will certainly happen when Ukraine wins the war which has been raging for more than a year.

“We all want to see a different Vladimir here in The Hague, the one who deserves to be sentenced for these criminal actions right here in the capital of international law. And I’m sure we will see that happen when we win, and we will win,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine said.

In their latest war of words, the Kremlin accused the US as the mastermind behind what it called an assassination attempt against the Russian president, a claim that the White House described as “ludicrous” as it intervened in defense of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy’s top adviser on the other hand accused Moscow of “staging” the alleged drone attack against Putin while the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War claimed it saw evidence of staging.

In March, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin and another Russian official over war crimes charges for their alleged role in the unlawful deportation of children from Ukraine to Russia.

The ICC cannot prosecute the crime of aggression because it lacks jurisdiction in Russia while Moscow is not a party to the Rome statute that established the court.
