Analyst: House probe on alleged ‘gentleman’s agreement’ waste of time

A geopolitical analyst and former official of the Duterte admin criticized the hearing on the “gentleman’s agreement,” calling it a waste of time and money.

“The thing is, I don’t really understand why there’s a congressional hearing on this. To be very frank, this is already moot and academic. You’re wasting money, people’s money, by holding a congressional hearing that’s already moot and academic because whatever was agreed upon by Duterte or Aquino, Marcos has already resend it, by Jr.,” according to Prof. Anna Malindog-Uy, Geopolitical Analyst.

Geopolitical analyst Prof. Anna Malindog-Uy views the recent House committee hearings on the “gentleman’s agreement,” attended by officials from former President Rodrigo Duterte‘s administration, as a mere waste of time and money.

She questions the necessity of such hearings, suggesting that the issues could easily be researched in newspaper articles dating back to 1999, 2013, or the present.

“The “New Model” agreement should be the subject of a congressional hearing, especially cases like Vice Admiral Carlos’s sacrifice, where he became a sacrificial lamb or scapegoat. They should pay attention to what it really is,” she stressed.

Prof. Malindog-Uy added that continuing with the hearing will lead to consequences they won’t like.

“If they continue that, it will just create a lot of commotion and it will divide the country because basically, people on the side of Duterte will not really be happy about what they’re doing because this is purely political agenda,” she added.

House probe on alleged ‘gentleman’s agreement’ waste of time, just pass laws: Ex-Palace Official

Former Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo expressed a similar sentiment regarding the House hearing on the “gentleman’s agreement.”

“That’s a useless undertaking, you’re just wasting your time. Just make laws,” stated Atty. Salvador Panelo, Former Chief Presidential Legal Counsel.

Recently, the House Committee on National Defense and Security held a hearing attended by former officials from the past Duterte administration, including former National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon, former Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, and former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea. They clarified that there was no “gentleman’s agreement” between former President Rodrigo Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
