Shooting at Las Vegas middle school; 1 injured

A shooting incident was reported near a middle school in the state of Las Vegas on Monday.

According to police, at least one adult was shot just before 12:40 pm and, later on, taken to a hospital.

The injured person was identified as a campus monitor by the education support employees association.

Captain Noel Roberts of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that it was not an active shooter.

Reportedly, the shooting occurred on the campus but outside the school building.

With this, the principal of the Ed Von Tobel Middle School assured the parents of the students that they were safe and the school had been put on a hard lockdown due to a police investigation.

Currently, police are still searching for the suspect behind the incident.

The incident is only one among the many cases of mass shootings in U.S. in 2023 alone.

The United States recently surpassed an unwanted milestone of surpassing more than 200 mass shootings so far this year, according to the data gathered by the gun violence archive.

The archive tracks shootings across the U.S. and defines a mass shooting as an incident in which 4 or more are shot, excluding a gunman.

The archive also noted that more than 14,700 lives have been lost due to gun violence in 2023 alone, and the mass shooting resulted in 9 deaths at an outlet mall in Texas on Sunday as the latest major incident in the U.S.
