Gilas Pilipinas triumphs over Jordan in Asian Games
And! After 61 years, the Philippines will take home a gold medal in the men’s basketball team from the Asian Games after Gilas Pilipinas triumphed over Jordan, 70-60.
This marks a huge comeback after Jordan first defeated the Philippines with a score of 87-62 in the preliminary games.
To recall, the Philippines won the gold medal in men’s basketball in the Asian Games in 1962, led by Caloy Loyzaga.
It can be remembered that veteran sports broadcaster and analyst Manolo “Chino” Trinidad expressed confidence that Gilas Pilipinas will be able to triumph against team Jordan in the finals of the basketball five-on-five tournament.
‘‘At the 8pm match, our Philippines, let’s call it our Philippine team who is currently in China, they will be able to do what the past team had done in 1962. That’s how long it had been, Direk [Peter]. Tomorrow, I think we will win,’’ according to Manolo “Chino” Trinidad.
Veteran sports broadcaster challenges Pastor ACQ to a basketball game
On the other hand, Chino Trinidad challenged Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy who is also a sports enthusiast and loves to play basketball.
‘‘Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, I challenge you to a basketball match. I won’t win against you. I know you can score, what? 46 three-point shots! At the age of 37! You’re only slightly past your age.’’
‘‘Yes, that’s a regular game. 46, how many three-point shots can he do consecutively? I will be the one to guard you. I think you can do 150 points,’’ Chino Trinidad said.
Pastor Apollo shocked the basketball world after he broke his own record and made 138 points from 46 three-point shots at the age of 72 in just one game.
