PM issues urgent message after death of Cambodian student in Israel

THE entire nation mourned the death of a Cambodian student who got trapped in the deadly clashes between Israeli troops and Hamas militants this past weekend.

Cambodian President Hun Manet issued a series of voice messages on Sunday after Israel declared war with Hamas.

Hun Manet assured of the urgent measures being taken by the Cambodian government and how it was closely following hundreds of students and citizens studying and living in Israel.

A Cambodian third-year student at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Royal University of Agriculture died during the onset of the attack launched by Hamas militants on Saturday.

The Royal Government of Cambodia said it was deeply saddened to learn that a Cambodian student died in fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Despite their diplomatic ties, Cambodia and Israel have no embassies in each other’s territories while the Israeli embassy in Bangkok, Thailand also handles matters related to the Cambodians.

Some 450 students reside in Israel, according to a statement from the Cambodian Foreign Ministry.
