IPINAGMAMALAKI ni Ambassador of Singapore to the Philippines Constance Lee na tanging Singapore lamang aniya na mayroong batas na bigyang kahalagahan ang proteksiyon ng mga migrant domestic workers.
Paliwanag ni Lee na marami ang hindi nakaaalam na dalawang beses na parusa ang kahaharapin ng isang employer kapag lumabag ito sa batas ng pang-aabuso sa isang foreign domestic workers.
“Any employer who is convicted of abuse of a migrant domestic workers is liable to face up to two times maximum punishment for the offence, so if you’re offence is one-year jail for instance the person will face 2 years in jail if the victim is a domestic migrant workers,” saad ni Amba Constance Lee, Ambassador of Singapore to the Philippines.
Sinabi naman ni Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac na 84%na mga Filipino sa Singapore ay Overseas Filipino Workers o tinatayang nasa 180,000.
Sa kasalukuyan nasa 200,000 ang mga Pilipinong naninirahan sa Singapore.
60% sa mga ito ay skilled workers habang 40% ay domestic workers.
“Yes, we have seen the growth of OFWs with better ang strongest skilled set, and as we know in our law, skills will be the highest form of protection the possession of skills would be the highest from of protection for the OFWs” pahayag ni Sec. Hans Leo Cacdac, DMW.
Ang pahayag ng mga opisyal ay kasabay sa pagbubukas ng dalawang araw na Singapore friendship week mula July 18-19, 2024 sa DMW Central Office sa lungsod ng Mandaluyong.
Tampok sa isang weeklong celebration ang mga kuwento ng dedikasyon, tiyaga, katatagan ng mga OFW sa Singapore sa pamamagitan ng film showing at photo exhibit.
Ang DMW at Singapore Embassy ay magbibigay ng mga educational seminars na mga nauusong trabaho at career opportunities sa Singapore.
Magkakroon din ng learning session para sa ligtras at ethical recruitment ng international organization for migration.
