ON 26 April 2024, Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo met with the Head of the EU Delegation to the Philippines and the Heads of Missions of European Union Member States (EMS) at the Spanish Ambassador’s residence.

Secretary Manalo highlighted the importance of upholding the rules-based order to maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. This is a continuing conversation and active area of collaboration between the Philippines and the EU and EMS, with the former’s interest to deepen cooperation with the EU on maritime safety and security, maritime domain awareness and ocean governance.

Secretary Manalo also emphasized the Philippines’ commitment to the maintenance of international peace and security, as well as sustainability, justice, and equity, as it seeks a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the term 2027-2028 and to host the Loss and Damage Fund Board.  He invited EU countries to the 2024 International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security on 28-30 October 2024 in Manila, which will prominently feature the role of women in peacebuilding.

Secretary Manalo stressed the significance of increasing trade and investment links to enhance economic resilience.

The PH and the EU will mark their 60th year of bilateral relations on 12 May 2024.
