Over 1M individuals affected by southwest monsoon, Tropical Cyclone Carina

AS Tropical Cyclone Carina moves towards Taiwan, more Filipinos are being affected by the intensified monsoon rains brought by Typhoon Carina.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), as of 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, there have been 14 reported deaths, 2 injuries, and 2 people missing.

These figures are still being verified by authorities.

Of the confirmed deaths, 8 have been verified by the NDRRMC: 4 from Region 9, and one each from Regions 10, 11, BARMM, and NCR.

Over 200K families, equivalent to over 1M individuals, have been affected by the severe weather.

Of the affected individuals, over 50K have temporarily sought shelter in over 200 evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, among the 9 regions, CALABARZON experienced the most severe power interruptions, with 12 areas losing electricity.

Nearly 300 areas across almost all regions in the country are submerged in floodwaters.

Region 3 had the most flooded areas with over 200, followed by MIMAROPA with 34, CALABARZON with 31, BARMM with 13, Region 9 with 9, and Regions 2 and 10 each with one flooded area.

Meanwhile, as of 5:00 am on Thursday, July 25, Typhoon Carina is approaching Taiwan and nearing the northern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

However, due to the Southwest Monsoon intensified by Tropical Cyclone Carina, heavy to intense rains (100-200 mm) are expected in Zambales, La Union, Pangasinan, and Benguet.

Moderate to heavy rains (50-100 mm) are expected in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Cavite, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, the rest of the Ilocos Region, Abra, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.
