SA isang forum sa Quezon City, Biyernes ng umaga, Marso 22, 2024, nagbigay ng update ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sa isyu ng peace and order sa Mindanao.
Lalo na sa kanlurang bahagi ng rehiyon.
Ayon kay AFP Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. William Gonzales, ilang taon nang tahimik ang Muslim areas sa panghahasik ng lagim ng teroristang grupo na Abu Sayyaf.
“Particularly in Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi (ZAMBASULTA). We have already dismantled the Abu Sayyaf Group and their cells, their kidnap for ransom cells. In fact, there are no more kidnapping incident for the last 3 years,” ayon kay Lt. Gen. William Gonzales, Commander, WesMinCom.
Notorious ang Abu Sayyaf sa kidnap for ransom activities kung saan mga dayuhang turista ang madalas binibiktima nito.
Para sa AFP, global concern ang pamamayagpag ng teroristang grupo kaya ilang taon nila itong tinugis.
“No less than the Governor of Sulu, Sakur Tan (Govenor Sakur Tan) has declared that Sulu is Abu Sayyaf Free, as I’ve said Basilan will follow soon because I think, in Sulu, there’s a remaining 14 Abu Sayyaf who lie low but we keep on engaging their families to tell them they really have to surrender,” dagdag pa ni Gonzales.
Patuloy naman ang ugnayan ng AFP sa Local Chief Executives sa Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) para maagapan ang pagsulpot ng bagong armed groups sa rehiyon.
Samantala, patuloy namang ginigiba ng government forces ang isang malaking pangkat ng New People’s Army (NPA) sa Mindanao at dinakip na ang mga matataas na lider nito.

“I would like to inform everybody that we are already processing for the dismantling of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee. If ever, it will be the first regional party committee of the CPP-NPA that we will dismantle,” pahayag ni Lt. Gen. William Gonzales.
Naghahanda naman ngayon ang WestMinCom sa latag ng seguridad sa paparating na 2025 mid-term elections.
