Australian schools to welcome return of ChatGPT in 2024

HAVING a hard time with your research and essays? Worry no more because ChatGPT can do the job for you. Here in Australia, the use of AI in the education system will soon become the new normal in 2024.

Since OpenAI launched the software ChatGPT for public access in November 2022, there have been debates within Australia’s education system as to how to respond to the new technology.

In Australia, all states and territories, except for South Australia, limited the use of ChatGPT in public schools last year, amid concerns of privacy and plagiarism.

Several schools abroad also banned the software due to fears it will limit the ability of students to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills and will be used to cheat on their assignments.

These restrictions however were only temporary after education ministers supported a framework released in December designed to regulate the use of AI in the country’s education system.

Australia’s education minister, Jason Clare, said an inquiry has been launched to make sure generative AI will not be used to sell student data and assured to monitor the upcoming developments of the proposed framework.

ChatGPT will be formally rolled out in all Australian schools sometime this year.
