SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go emphasized, during the Philippine Councilors League’s National Assembly at the World Trade Center in Pasay City on Wednesday, December 6, that he continues to champion pro-poor programs to help ensure that no Filipino is left behind on the path to recovery.
The assembly, attended by councilors from across the country, provided a platform for leaders to come together and discuss efforts for the betterment of their communities.
“Ako po ang magpapasalamat sa inyo mga konsehal sa inyong suporta sa panahon ni (dating) pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte. Hindi po magiging successful ang kanyang administration kung hindi po dahil sa inyo. Salamat po sa inyong tulong… Ako naman po ang handang magtrabaho para sa inyo sa abot ng aking makakaya,” remarked Go in his speech.
The senator also provided tokens of support to councilors in attendance.
Advocating for the marginalized sectors, Go emphasized the importance of transcending political titles and affiliations to focus on the shared goal of uplifting the lives of all Filipinos.
“I stand before you today not just as a senator but as a public servant committed to the welfare of our fellow Filipinos,” Go declared. “Our titles may differ, but our purpose remains the same – to serve the people and work towards the betterment of our communities.”
The senator highlighted the need for a collective effort to address the challenges faced by the nation, especially in the aftermath of unprecedented events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. He stressed the significance of prioritizing pro-poor programs that would have a direct and positive impact on the lives of the most vulnerable citizens.
Go also acknowledged the diversity of challenges faced by different regions and localities but urged leaders to support one another in their respective initiatives. He emphasized that collaboration and mutual support among local government officials are crucial for achieving positive change.
“As leaders, we must be the bridge between our constituents and the opportunities that will lead to their empowerment. The recovery process must be inclusive, leaving no Filipino behind. We should focus on uplifting those who are struggling and ensure that they have equal access to the benefits of progress,” Go asserted.
On the same week, Go filed Senate Bill No. (SBN) 2504, aimed at increasing the salary schedule of civilian personnel in the Philippine government. The proposed legislation, referred to as the “Salary Standardization Law VI,” aims to modify and enhance the stipulations outlined in Republic Act No. 11466, also known as Salary Standardization Law (SSL) 5. In 2019, Go played a key role in the passage of SSL 5 as one of its authors and co-sponsors in the Senate.
Recognizing the importance of adapting to evolving circumstances, Go proposed SBN 194, or the E-Governance Act. If approved, this bill aims to establish a thorough and interconnected system for the exchange of information and resources, as well as to foster communication among national and local government entities.
“As we close this year and approach the challenges that lie ahead, let us renew our commitment to the ideals of public service. Let us continue to work tirelessly for the benefit of the many, especially the marginalized and underprivileged. The challenges we face may be great, but the strength of our collective resolve is even greater,” Go remarked.
