Chinese Premier to visit New Zealand this week

CHINA’S Premier Li Qiang prepares to travel to New Zealand in the next few days. The visit will make Li the first Chinese premier to visit the Pacific country in seven years.

The visit will also make Li the second high-ranking Chinese official to visit the country in 2024 following Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi who visited in late March.

According to Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, the rare visit will focus on opportunities for exchanges in areas where they have shared interests and constructively address issues where both countries have differences.

China is New Zealand’s largest trading partner. Two-way trade between the two countries reached nearly NZ$38-B in 2023.
