City gov’t continues to provide services to PWDs

THE City Government of Davao, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), continues to offer different programs and services to Dabawenyo Persons with Disability (PWDs) as part of the city’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of the PWDs.

Julie Dayaday, head of the CSWDO, said during the ISpeak Media Forum on Thursday, that their office provides services and programs for the PWDs including capacity building and skills training.

Dayaday said that in the previous year, they conducted a mushroom production training for the PWDs, adding that they are hoping to conduct another training in the coming year with a different focus.

She said that the training they offer to the PWDs does not only depend on what their office thinks would suit best for the community, but is based on requests of the PWDs in the city.

As always, go back gyud ta sa need ng PWD dili lang kay amoang huna-huna o amoang nakita. Sila gyud mismo kay sila man sad (ang makinabang) (We always go back to the needs of the community and not only to what we think and what we’ve observed, because they are also the ones who will benefit from the training),” she said.

There are around 22,000 PWDs in the city. Dayaday said that the number continues to increase as the Department of Health (DOH) also continues to release new guidelines on who and what qualifies as PWD.

The City Government of Davao, through the CSWDO, also continues to create programs, projects, and services that will not only recognize the unique talents and perspectives of the PWDs, but also empower them.

Dabawenyos are urged to continue creating an inclusive space that recognizes the capabilities, perspectives, and rights of the PWD community.
