A husband and wife, both members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), were killed in an encounter with the Philippine Army in Purok-5, Brgy. Tuburan, Cawayan, Masbate the other day.
The communist couple, known by their aliases “Ka Irma” and “Ka Alan,” members of Platoon 1, Guerrilla Territory Committee South, Sub-regional Committee 4 of the NPA Bicol Regional Party Committee, were both dead on the spot.
According to reports, at around 7 o’clock in the morning while conducting a combat operation in the area, soldiers of the 2nd Infantry Battalion, 9th Infantry Division encountered an estimated 10 NPA members.
Both sides immediately exchanged gunfire, which lasted for almost eight minutes until the communist couple were fatally wounded. The rebels scattered in different directions after the two were hit.
