DOT, Mastercard explore data-driven, digitally empowered tourism

TOURISM Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and Mastercard Southeast Asia Marketing Senior Vice President Dheeraj Raina on Tuesday (May 20) welcomed a strategic partnership aimed at digitally transforming the Philippine tourism experience.

Secretary Frasco associated the Marcos Administration’s tourism agenda, its value-based metrics, enhanced infrastructure, and digital-first approach to travel with Mastercard’s directions.

Discussions zeroed in on potential synergies between Mastercard’s global analytics capabilities, connecting it with the DOT’s ongoing digitalization initiatives, prioritizing tourism spending, and country branding through Love the Philippines.

These are among the key areas of collaboration the DOT and Mastercard looked at, including data-driven marketing and the development of smart tourism features, online shopping platforms, cybersecurity, and system integration.

Secretary Frasco also underscored the critical role of domestic tourism in sustaining the industry’s momentum, with Mastercard proposing initiatives to support this significant segment.

Also present during the meeting were Mastercard Services Business Lead Bryan Kenneth Tsang and Director Rozano Planta. Representing the DOT were Undersecretaries Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, Verna Buensuceso, and Ferdinand Jumapao; Assistant Secretary Judilyn Quiachon; and Directors Paulo Benito Tugbang and Zeny Pallugna.
