AS part of its month-long 127th Anniversary Celebration, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) held a nationwide simultaneous tree planting activity on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the tree-planting initiative of the DPWH Social Affairs Committee headed by Undersecretary Marichu A. Palafox marks another fruitful year for the agency, reaffirming the Department’s strong commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable nation-building.
The DPWH Central Office, in partnership with Regional Office 4A, conducted the tree planting activity which is also in preparation for the upcoming Philippine Arbor Day, at Tayak Hills, Barangay Tala, Municipality of Rizal, Laguna.
DPWH Assistant Secretary Michael S. Villafranca and District Engineer Carlos P. Muere of DPWH Laguna 3rd District Engineering Office together with the officers and members of the DPWH Central Office Union led the event which was attended by 300 participants from the DPWH Central Office, Regional Office 4A, and the National Capital Region.
Across the country, more than 5,000 trees were planted, including species such as Fire Tree, Narra, Cacao, Mango, April Shower, Bani, Calamansi, Ipil, Ebony, Kamagong, Acacia, Mangrove, and Molave. The activity was conducted in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
“Aligned with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Build Better More Program, we have ramped up the implementation of vital infrastructure projects, that support economic growth while minimizing environmental impact through reforestation, conservation, and climate resilience efforts,” Secretary Bonoan added.
