AVIATION consultancy Official Airline Guide (OAG) named Dubai International, home of the largest international carrier Emirates, as the busiest global airport in January.
DXB retained the busiest global airport title after recording nearly 57 million seats in 2023.
London Heathrow Airport (LHR) came in second place with 47 million seats.
The results of the ranking were based on global data taken from January to December 2023.
It was also named the busiest in 2022, with 45 million seats, and recorded 53 million seats in 2019.
There are plans to expand and upgrade Dubai International Airport to become a full-scale ‘smart’ airport.
Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths revealed that the company is willing to spend between 6 billion and 10 billion Dirhams to upgrade the airport.
Dubai also announced plans to transform Al Maktoum International Airport into the world’s biggest airport by 2050, with a capacity to serve more than 260 million passengers every year.
