Elevating safe, sustainable connectivity in Southeast Asia

EMPOWERING collaboration in the aviation industry to achieve safe, sustainable and seamless connectivity– this is one of the missions mentioned by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) during the 3rd International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) – European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Forum on Civil Aviation in South East Asia, yesterday, 23 April 2024.

“While we continue to strengthen the regulatory function of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines over the development, expansion and modernization of our commercial airports, we hope to discover practical and sustainable solutions on safety regulations, inspector training as well as tools for safety oversight,” Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said.

Secretary Bautista also mentioned the country’s efforts to comply with international aviation standards with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) the initiative of ICAO, promotion of biofuels or sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), and partnerships with different agencies and academe to fulfill the commitment to nature-based carbon sink project development.

“Philippine aviation is brimming with hope of today’s collaborations will not only synergize our respective endeavors towards sustained connectivity but also inspire to achieve regional inter-operability, a single aviation market, a seamless ASEAN sky and full-throttle industry digitalization,” Sec. Bautista remarked.
