Erdogan, Raisi sign $30 billion trade deal amid Gaza tensions

TURKISH President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi as he arrived in Ankara for a diplomatic visit.

Raisi arrived in the Turkish capital earlier this week to attend the yearly Iran-Turkiye High-Level Cooperation Council.

The Iranian leader announced that Iran and Turkiye have set a goal to boost their bilateral trade to $30 billion annually.

The ongoing war in Gaza was also one of the main agenda of the meeting wherein both leaders cited the importance of regional stability and continuing cooperation against cross-border threats.

Erdoğan and Raisi also showed support for Palestinians amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

Before leaving Tehran, the Iranian president blamed the U.S. and its Western allies for supporting Israel and its failure to stop the bombardments of Gaza.

Established in 2014, the diplomatic meeting aims to strengthen the bilateral relations of both countries based on international law.
