India’s PM Modi visits United States

INDIAN Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the third day of his state visit to the United States.

In a Twitter post, Modi shared videos of his arrival and thanked Biden for his hospitality.

This comes after the Indian prime minister attended the historic yoga session in the UN headquarters and a lavish state dinner hosted by President Joe Biden together with first lady Jill Biden at the White House.

Modi’s first designated state visit to the United States comes amid increasing cooperation in fields of trade and arms sales between New Delhi and Washington.

The Indian Prime Minister is seeking to raise India’s influence on the world stage amid strained ties with neighboring country, China.

However, it can also be noted that Modi’s government has made a far-right turn by cracking down on dissent, targeting journalists, and introducing policies that are criticized by some for being against Muslims.

But U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan earlier said that such issues are expected to feature in the talks, but Biden will not lecture Modi on the subject.

Sullivan also said that Modi’s visit is not about China, but the question of its role in the domains of military, technology, and economy, will be on the agenda.
