Intense heat waves scorch nearly 200 million Americans

OVER the past 4 weeks, a scorching heat waves has engulfed the southern parts of the United States.

Unusually high temperatures are expected to persist through the weekend where the heat index could climb as high as 110ºf.

The country’s biggest power grid, PJM, declared a level-one energy emergency alert.

The American Red Cross says heat is the leading weather-related killer in the US—more than 600 people in the country die every year from heat-related illnesses, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Dangerous heat combined with high humidity will make it feel like it’s more than 100 °C throughout the area and there will be little relief at night with temperatures as much as 15 °C hotter than normal.

Currently, United States officials and forecasters are urging people to avoid the heat by staying in and advising them to drink plenty of fluids.

Due to the climate crisis, weather experts warn that global warming will only get worse in the future.
